Basis of Grading & Policies

Two analytic essays and one research report (50% of final grade)

All papers must be typed, double-spaced, sporting regular margins and font sizes.
The analytic essays should be 4-5 pages long, organized into a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

The research report, also 4-5 pp., will include a short, annotated bibliography.

Papers are due at the beginning of class on the days indicated above. Late submissions sink one half grade for every class that meets after they’re due. Extensions may be arranged up to a week before the due date.

Participation (25% of final grade)

Participation counts heavily towards your final grade—much more than any single assignment. I’ll be measuring the dependability of your punctual attendance, as well as your effort to keep the discussion interesting and coherent. If you’ve proven yourself steady and honorable and cheerful in keeping up with all demands of this class, you’ll be rewarded here.

More than six absences over the course of the semester guarantee an ‘F’.

Responses (15% of final grade)

When a response is due, it must be emailed to fraud@clayfox.com before class meets. Responses emailed afterwards won’t be accepted. I’ll let you know that I received the response on time.

Do not send responses as attachments. Copy the text and paste it into the body of a regular email message. In addition, print out a copy of the response and bring it to class with you.

You are welcome to build on a response, using it as the basis for one of your longer essays.

Steady, timely responses will boost your participation grade. At the end of the semester, I’ll assign a grade to the collection.

Class hosting (10% of final grade)

Each student will at one point ‘host’ the class. That involves giving us a brief, succinct summary of your research project (which you’ll hand into me that day), and answering questions during class discussion. Signups for presentations will happen early in the semester.
